Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995

The regulations require that 'food handlers must be supervised and instructed and/or trained in food hygiene matters commensurate with their work activities'.

Millions of people in the U.K. every year suffer from diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps. Many of these people will have eaten contaminated or poisonous food and a few of them will die.

Those most at risk include the very young, the frail elderly, persons who are ill or convalescing, persons with allergies to specific foods and even pregnant women.

The high levels of food poisoning cases in this country are usually the result of negligence and/or ignorance. Therefore most experts in food hygiene believe that a reduction in cases will only be achieved by the education of food handlers.

The Royal Institute of Public Health Foundation in Food Hygiene Course offered by FCNA aims to provide a basic knowledge of good food hygiene practice.
